Safety-critical vehicle software, from hazard analysis to production.

Unatech engineers functional safety, software-defined vehicle architecture and embedded software for automakers and their suppliers. Our engineers teach the standards to industry and apply them on production programs. We also build our own tools for the work: SST and the SST Runtime.

Central compute architectureA central compute ECU with a high-performance processor running a type-1 hypervisor that separates an ASIL B safety domain from a QM infotainment guest, an on-chip safety monitor and HSM, and an ASIL D safety microcontroller that supervises the processor through a health and safe-state link. The ECU connects over SOME/IP and CAN FD to zone controllers, cameras and displays.CENTRAL COMPUTE ECUCompute processorSafety domainASIL BADAS monitoringsurround-view camerasdegradation mgmtInfotainment guestQMmedia · appsvoice · navigationcontent protectionType-1 hypervisor · freedom from interferenceHSMsecure boot · keysSafety monitoron-chip health · faultsSafety MCUASIL D LOCKSTEPASIL Dalarm handlingwatchdog supervisionprocessor healthsafe-state controlCAN FD gatewayhealth · safe-state linkVEHICLE NETWORK · SOME/IP · CAN FDZone controllerfrontZone controllerrearCameras · displayssurround viewUNATECH · SDV CENTRAL COMPUTEMIXED CRITICALITY · ISO 26262 / 21434

Beyond the academic

We teach ISO 26262. We also ship it.

Plenty of firms can recite the standard. Fewer have carried a safety concept from HARA to the hardware-software interface on a real program, against a real gate date, with a silicon vendor's safety manual open on the desk.

That is the work we do. The same engineers who teach functional safety, AUTOSAR and cybersecurity to industry professionals write the safety concepts, architectures and safety analyses our clients take into production. You get people who know what an assessor will ask and what the software can actually do.

  • Six years teaching TÜV NORD's ISO 26262 certification course
  • Professional courses at Oakland University in ISO 26262, AUTOSAR, cybersecurity and SDV
  • Safety work across ISO 26262 Parts 2 to 6, from item definition to software architecture
  • Central compute experience down to the silicon safety manual, the hypervisor and the safety microcontroller
  • Fixed-price work packages with defined deliverables and bounded iterations
Technology we work in

From the silicon up

Safety and architecture decisions live or die on the details of the parts underneath them. These are the platforms, standards and toolchains our engineers work in every week.

Training and research

We teach what we practise

Our engineers teach ISO 26262, AUTOSAR, cybersecurity and software-defined vehicles in Oakland University's professional courses, and taught TÜV NORD's ISO 26262 certification course for six years. We also sponsor student research at Oakland University.

Bring us the hard part.

A HARA that won't close, a silicon safety manual nobody has mapped, an architecture spread across ten tools. Tell us where your program is stuck and we'll tell you how we would get it moving.
